Did you get to watch the live stream of the London Olympics Women’s Marathon? I unfortunately didn’t get the chance to watch it live (and I have yet to find a recording of it anywhere so far) but I did follow people live tweeting the live stream via Twitter (Thank you #runchat).
Well if you didn’t watch it or see the results, Tiki Gelana of Ethiopia was the winner with a time of 2:23.07, which is a new Olympic Record (Holy Crap that is FAST). The US runners didn’t make an appearance in the standings until Shalene Flanagan got 10th place, followed by Kara Goucher in 11th (2:25.51 and 2:26.07 respectively). Even though the US didn’t do as well as they had hoped for, I would say that 10th and 11th IN THE WORLD is still a pretty respectable finish.
Anyway, I bring up the Olympic results for that race for a reason, to talk about the Marathon. As I alluded in my previous post (and if you have seen me post it on Facebook), you will know that I have officially registered for my first marathon.
Yes, I am going to run a marathon… or at least attempt to.
I know I won’t be setting any records with this race, but I fully intend to have fun and do my best.
What is my marathon of choice? I will be running in the Walt Disney World Marathon in January 2013. My run will be chock full of Disney parks and Disney characters. You can bet your ass there will be a picture of me with Mickey somewhere.
Also, to add on to the Disney fun, I will be participating with Team in Training again as a mentor. This will be season #3 that I have been involved with TNT and I couldn’t be happier being a part of it. Every time I run, I feel as if I’m making a difference.
So what can you do? I only need to fundraise a very minimal amount (approximately $500) this time, but every dollar helps. Can you help me? If you want to learn more about TNT and learn about why you should donate, just ask and I can give you PLENTY of reasons. You can also make a donation to my fundraising site by following this link.
So yes, 26.2 miles of fun will be had, over $500 for LLS will be raised, and hundreds of lives will be affected for the better by the money raised. Thank you, and see you on the other side.
